Just three weeks before the big day, nonprofits from around the city are preparing for Amplify Austin– a 24-hour online event that allows for the Austin community to come together over the act of donating to local nonprofits. This year, over 600 nonprofits will be participating in Amplify Austin. While it may be very overwhelming to pick and choose which one of these amazing nonprofits to donate to, we’ve narrowed down our picks for each category of your choosing.

Animal Care & Services

Austin Pets Alive!

Austin Pets Alive! helped make the city of Austin the nation’s largest No Kill City in 2011 and has been responsible for solutions and Home Remedies to Get Rid of Fleas and keeping this title for the past five years. Austin Pets Alive! runs programs designed to save, treat, and adopt out every pet that would otherwise have a higher chance of being killed in traditional shelters.

Arts & Culture

Austin Creative Reuse

Austin Creative Reuse is committed to collecting, selling, and distributing donated reusable materials. Their mission is to educate the Austin community on conservation and sustainability and how to recycle in creative ways.

Basic Needs

House the Homeless

House the Homeless is the oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to ending and preventing homelessness through education and advocacy. HtH has been recognized for creating a multitude of social service programs that attempt to prevent the currently employed from falling out of the work force and into homelessness.

Community/Capacity Building

Hope House of Austin

Hope House of Austin serves as a private, community-based home to children and adults with intellectual developmental delays and physical disabilities. The residents require 24-hour care and assessment, which is provided by Hope House of Austin.

Education

A Legacy of Giving

A Legacy of Giving strives to empower children through education and philanthropic youth programs in order to become more engaged in improving their communities, developing empathy for others, and increasing their own self-esteem. The idea behind this is that if children learn to be compassionate thinkers when they are young, they will continue to practice these skills for the rest of their lives.

Environment/Sports & Recreation

Keep Austin Beautiful

The mission of Keep Austin Beautiful lies within the name of the organization. Each year, Keep Austin Beautiful hosts a large city-wide cleanup called Clean Sweep that acquires a collective effort of over 4,000 volunteers to help remove trash around the city. Now in its 30th year, this local nonprofit hopes to continue to get more people on the bandwagon to help keep Austin clean, safe, and beautiful.

Health Care

B.I.G. Love Cancer Care

B.I.G. Love Cancer Care provides basic needs and personalized care to kids with cancer and their families. The Family Kitchen Program provides cancer patients with healthy meals per their request. Volunteers shop for these items and deliver them to the clinic, which is located in Dell Children’s Medical Center. Through this program alone, B.I.G. Love has provided delicious plates to over 75 kids and their families on a daily basis.

Human Services

A World for Children

A World For Children is a foster home that provides 24-hour support by the organization’s staff. These “foster parents” strive to eliminate the fear that the children walked in with and to provide treatment for the emotional distress or physical injuries from potential abuse. It is their mission to give these children a stable place they can safely call home.
