How you can help those affected by Hurricane Harvey

Over the past week, Rockport, Port Aransas, Houston, and many other cities have experienced a great amount of disaster due to Hurricane Harvey hitting the Texas coast. Since, millions of people across the country have reached out with open arms willing to help. I’ve noticed many organizations looking for donations and many people looking to donate various items. It is truly incredible how this country comes together in time of tragedy and in time of need. Here is a list of where you can donate, businesses you can support that are donating proceeds, how you can help with animal rescue, and other ways you can support victims of Hurricane Harvey. 

National organizations:

American Red Cross – accepting monetary donations to aid those affected by Hurricane Harvey

Global Giving – all funds will support recovery and relief efforts, first aiding the immediate needs of the victims of Hurricane Harvey

RebuildTX – the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has partnered with the OneStar Foundation and has set a goal to raise $100 million to donate to the Rebuild Texas Fund

Americares – accepting donations and mobilizing medical outreach to areas of need

Salvation Army – accepting monetary and tangible donations

Houston area organizations:

Greater Houston Community Foundation – accepting monetary donations: established by Mayor Sylvester Turner

United Way of Greater Houston – accepting monetary donations

L.G.B.T. Disaster Relief Fund – Houston’s LGBT Community Center launched disaster relief fund to aid those in the LGBT community and are accepting monetary donations

Austin area organizations accepting tangible items:

Austin Disaster Relief Network – Accepting tangible donations for those affected by Hurricane Harvey

Springdale Farm – accepting tangible donations to donate to Austin Disaster Relief Network

BP3/ Red Velvet Events – accepting tangible donations to transport to for those affected by Hurricane Harvey—ends on 9/5/2017

Juice Society – ends on 9/1/2017

Austin area businesses donating proceeds:

Yeti – donating 100% of sales of Friday, September 1

Bangers – hosting benefit on Saturday, September 2, and all proceeds will go to GlobalGiving

Boiler Nine Bar + Grill – donating net profits from happy hour 4:00-7:00 PM

Blood donations:

South Texas Blood and Tissue Center – schedule an appointment to donate blood to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey

Carter Blood Care – schedule an appointment to donate blood to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey

We Are Blood – accepting blood donations over the next month which will go to victims of Hurricane Harvey

AABB – accepting blood donations to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey—put out a call for type O-positive

Animal rescue organizations:

Austin Pets Alive – accepting monetary and tangible donations—expecting to take in approximately 2,000 animals by the end of the week

Houston Humane Society – accepting monetary donations

San Antonio Humane Society – accepting monetary and tangible donations, put out a call for volunteers to transfer pets

Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – accepting monetary donations

Companies matching donations:

Google – matching $1 million in donations

Facebook – matching all donations through facebook up to $1 million

Amazon – matching donations to American Red Cross up to $1 million

Other services available to victims:

Airbnb – waiving fees and pairing victims with hosts offering free lodging

Favor Delivery – transporting tangible goods to areas of need

Ride Austin – activating drivers to transport pets to shelters as well as other tangible goods to areas of need
