Adobe Announces the End of Life for Business Catalyst
What is Adobe Business Catalyst?
In 2009, Adobe acquired Business Catalyst, an all-in-one content management system and digital marketing platform designed for creative agencies and businesses. This platform brings together the core features needed to build a website; including tools for eCommerce, Blogging, Events, Membership, Forums and more. With a multitude of security mechanisms in place, Adobe Business Catalyst built a strong reputation over the years for security and reliability, explaining why so many businesses built their websites around this platform.
End of Life—The Details
On March 26th 2018, to everybody’s surprise, Adobe announced the end of life for Business Catalyst. This announcement was made exactly three years before the end date. So, as of March 26th 2021, they will stop hosting sites, all customer data will be deleted and their service will be shut down. This has caused devastation to many of their loyal customers who have built their websites on this platform. So, why is Adobe choosing to discontinue Business Catalyst? While they haven’t provided much of a detailed explanation, below is their official statement:
“Adobe is committed to delivering exceptional software and services to our customers. It’s in our nature to innovate and try new things, and it was in this spirit that we acquired Business Catalyst in 2009. As we re-focus on products that broadly provide our customers with the most value, Adobe is announcing the end of development for Business Catalyst as of March 26th, 2018. New sites will no longer be available for purchase starting with June 18th, 2018.”
